BRYSON CITY – Once again the Swain Varsity Cheerleaders will be making a Bowl Game appearance. Thirteen members of the Varsity Football Cheer Squad will be leaving December 26th to travel to San Antonio, Texas to participate in the Halftime show of the Valero Alamo Bowl. “We are so excited!” says Coach Sherry Wright. “We were invited to several bowl games, but decided on the Alamo Bowl. The prospect of flying sealed the deal for us, as most of these girls have never been on an airplane. I also like for them to go somewhere they have never been and see places that they have never seen. We throw a little history in between rehearsals as well.” The team has been hard at work practicing their routine that is sent to them to learn in advance. “We can’t wait to work with our choreographer, Jamal Sims, who has worked on Step Up 4, Footloose, and the Miley Cyrus Wonderworld Tour (which he directed) among other things. We’ve had to work hard to get our cheer dance mindset to become a little more hip hop. It has been fun though.” The team will be staying on the River Walk in San Antonio and will be visiting The Alamo, the Alamo Imax Theatre, and the Towers of the Americas, along with other sightseeing spots. “We will be tweeting and facebooking our adventure, so be sure and follow us during these 5 days. Thanks to everyone who bought a fundraiser item or purchased a 50/50 ticket! We couldn’t be going without you! We are so proud to represent our school and Swain County at such an event!” The game will televised on ESPN on Monday, December 30th at 6:45 p.m.
