Hiwassee Dam – Hiwassee Dam has won the last 4 Smoky Mountain Conference Championships, but Monday the last team to win a conference title nearly knocked them out of first. Swain took the Eagles to the brink before falling 6-5. The Lady Devils took a 5-3 into the sixth inning before Hiwassee Dam scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Swain scored in the top of the first after Grace Cabe doubled to right field. Cabe advanced to third on a ground out by Erin Jenkins, and then scored on a wild pitch. Hiwassee answered back with two runs off their own in the bottom of the first.
It was Cabe who ignited the Lady Devils two run Top of the third. Cabe singled to open the inning, then advanced following a Kenzie Eagleman single. Alicia Green singled to score Cabe. Then Eagleman scored on a Bryar Buchanan sacrifice fly to give the Lady Devils a 3-2 lead.
In the fifth inning the Lady Devils added to their lead. Grace Cabe, once again started the inning with a single. Erin Jenkins and Kenzie Eagleman followed with a pair of singles to load the bases. Cabe scored on a Alicia Green fielders choice. Bryar Buchanan followed with a single up the middle, scoring Jenkins from third. Unfortunately the Lady Devils would leave the bases loaded, but came out of the top of the fifth with a 5-2 lead.
For the game Grace Cabe finished 3-4 with 3 runs scored. Alicia Green and Bryar Buchanan each drove in a pair of runs. Erin Jenkins and Kenzie Eagleman scored a run each and Eagleman had a pair of hits.
Taylor Day took a tough luck loss in the circle. Day struck out five and walked only two on the day.
