Andrews – It was far from a thing of beauty, but the Lady Devils rallied to take their fourth straight win. After trailing 5-1, Swain outscored Andrews 13-3 over the final 4 innings to take a 14-8 Smoky Mountain Conference win.
Andrews jumped out to a 5-1 lead on the Devils with a 4 run 2nd inning. Swain cut the lead to 5-3 with 2 runs in the top of the 4th, and then added another run in the top of the 5th. The Lady Devils then added 6 runs in the 6th to take the lead, before adding 4 more in the 7th.
Trailing by one in the top of the 6th, Gabby Jones doubled down the left field line to open the frame. Callyn Brown reached after attempting to sacrifice Jones to third. Kyndall Jones entered to run for Brown and promptly stole 2nd base to give Swain runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Jones would score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 5. One batter later Kyndall Jones scored as Alyssa Haymond grounded out to 1st, giving Swain their first lead of the game at 6-5.
But the Lady Devils were not done in the 6th. Grace Cabe used her speed to get an inside the park home run. Erin Jenkins and Bryar Buchanan both walked and came around to score as Kenzie Eagleman reached on an error. Eagleman alertly came all the way around to 3rd as Andrews threw to the plate. Eagleman would score one pitch later on a wild pitch. When the dust settled the Lady Devils emerged with a 10-5 lead.
Andrews rallied to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.
Swain would answer again in the bottom of the 7th. Kyndall Jones, hitting for Brown, coaxed a walk to open the inning. Jones then stole 2nd, then advanced to 3rd on passed ball. Jones was cut down at the plate on a Taylor Day grounder. Kendall Bowers then came on to run for Day. Bowers advanced as Alyssa Haymond singled. Erin Jenkins reached base, to load the bases. Then Bryar Buchanan cleared the bases with a line shot to right-center field. Buchanan would score on a Kenzie Eagleman shot to deep left field.
Buchanan finished the day 3-4 with 3 rbi and 3 runs scored. Eagleman went 2-5 with a pair of rbi, while Erin Jenkins was 1-2 with 3 walks. Alicia Green, Gabby Jones and Jenkins each scored twice.
