Hayesville – Through the first three innings the Yellow Jackets built a 6-1 lead over Swain. But over the next four innings the Lady Devils clawed their way back, finally taking the lead in the top of the 7th.
In the decisive 7th the Lady Devils entered their half trailing Hayesville 6-5. Adriana Kaylor lead off the inning by reaching via a Yellow Jacket error. Swain’s next hitter, Bryar Buchanan laced triple to deep left-center field scoring Kaylor from first to tie the game at 6. Two batters later Gabby Jones doubled down the left field line to score Buchanan with the go ahead run.
In the bottom of the seventh the Lady Devils had to face the heart of the Jackets batting order in their 3, 4, and 5 hitters. Karie Jones, working in relief of Taylor Day, promptly got Hannah Long, the SMC’s leading hitter, to line out to Gabby Jones at shortstop. Jones got the final two outs with ground balls to earn her 4th win of the season.
Callyn Brown lead a balanced Swain attack with a pair of hits. Kyndle Jones, running for Brown, scored twice and stole a base. Karie Jones, Sydney Call, Taylor Shuler, Bryar Buchanan, and Gabby Jones each had a hit for Swain.
