Bryson City – While most area teams were rained out last week the Lady Devils managed to get in 3 games in the span of 2 days. First Swain opened their season with a 5-1 win over Andrews, then on Saturday the Devils dropped a pair of games to Pisgah.
On Friday the Lady Devils got a solid performance from Taylor Day in the circle and then backed her with solid defense in picking up their first win of 2015. Day tossed a complete game, striking out a career high 12 batters while yielding only 2 hits and giving up one unearned run.
Swain got on the board first, in the bottom of the first. Senior outfielder Karie Jones singled, stole second and later scored on a Sydney Call single.
Andrews tied the game in the third on an unearned run. Then Swain scored two in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth to pull away.
In the fifth Erin Jenkins singled and advanced all the way to third on Karie Jones second hit of the day. Taylor Shuler doubled home both Jenkins and Jones to put Swain up 3-1.
Then in the sixth Caitlyn Dills singled home Sydney Call for the Devils 4th run. Bryar Buchanan, running for Dills, scored on a Callyn Brown double to finish the scoring for Swain.
Saturday Pisgah swept two five inning games from the Devils by the scores of 11-0 and 8-0. In game two Gabby Jones had a pair of hits to go with Adriana Kaylor and Erin Jenkins who had a hit each. In game one Swain got hits from Karie Jones, Bryar Buchanan and Gabby Jones.
