HAYESVILLE – Swain got off to a roaring start, and then had to hold off a Yellow Jacket comeback to record their second SMC win last Friday.  The Devils jumped out to a 14-0 lead before many people had found their seats.  But Hayesville rallied back behind senior Caleb Nuckolls. Nuckolls threw 2 touchdown passes to tie the game at 14 heading into halftime.  Swain eventually took a 28-21 win, outscoring Hayesville 14-7 in the 2nd half.

In the first half, Spencer McCoy put the Devils on the board first with a 1 yard touchdown run.  The McCoy score capped a 13 play 60 yard drive to open the game for the Devils.  Following an interception the Devils put together a 12 play 45 yard drive to find paydirt again.  This time Raymius Smith hit Jordan Cody for a 6 yard touchdown pass.  Ben Miller made good on both extra points to put Swain up 14-0.

Caleb Nuckolls hit Chris Reinhardt with 2 seperate touchdown passes in the 2nd quarter to bring Hayesville back.  First was a 9 yard strike, followed by a 13 yard strike.

In the 2nd half the Devils broke the tie and took the lead for good on a 2 yard Raymius Smith run midway through the 3rd period.  McCoy gave the Devils the insurance they would need when he scored from 1 yard out.  Ben Miller made good on both extra points to put Swain up 28-14.

Hayesville got one last score on a 1 yard run by Caleb Nuckolls to pull to within 7 at 28-21.

Nuckolls had a banner night against his former team.  He finished with a game high 146 yards on 18 carries and was 12 of 15 for 128 yards passing.  He accounted for all 3 Yellow Jacket touchdowns.  For good measure he added 10 tackles, a pass break up, and a foreced fumble.

Blake Wright paced the Devils with 88 yards on 16 carries.

Midway through the 2nd quarter Raymius Smith hit Jordan Cody for a 17 yard gain.  The pass completion gave Smith 5000 passing yards for his career.  Smith finished with 82 yards on 12 of 23 passing, he also ran for a score and passed for another.
