Bryson City – After being rained out on Tuesday the Maroon Devils and Hiwassee Dam tried again on Wednesday. This time the waiting the rain out and got two games in despite being delayed for over an hour during the first game. The delay came in the Eagles half of the 2nd inning and was in the form of a torrential downpour. Swain was leading 4-3 when the rain hit. Coming back after the rain the Devils were able to post a 9-4 win. In the nightcap the Devils added a 2-1 win for the sweep.
Gabe Lillard, Carson Taylor, Damian Lossiah and Brenn Jackson each had a pair of hits. Damian Lossiah drove in a pair of runs, while Lillard, Taylor, Jackson and Cameron Blankenship each drove in a run.
On the mound Gabe Lillard started for Swain and pitched until the rain storm. Ronnie Griggs settled in when play resumed and then Carson Taylor finished things off.
Game two was a pitchers dual. Hits dried up for both teams. The duo of Charlie Collins and Carson Taylor held Hiwassee Dam to one hit through the five innings. Collins struck out 5 and walked 1, while Taylor struck out 4 and walked 1. Collins earned the win while Taylor picked up a save.
Unfortunately the Devils bats were silent as well.
Gabe Lillard led off with a triple to right field. Lillard would score the game’s first run on a wild pitch.
Then in the 3rd inning, Cooper Hyatt started the inning with a walk. Hyatt would promptly steal 2nd and 3rd base. Carter Hayes would bring Hyatt home with a sacrifice fly to right field. Hayes also accounted for the Devils only other hit, with a single in the 1st inning.
