Bryson City (Special to the MDN) – The girls track team has continued to work to better their times and performances over the past couple of weeks. We have been asking a lot of them individually as we try to position ourselves to be successful in the championship season, which begins this week with the Smoky Mountain Conference Championships. We have had strong senior contributions from Jenna Marr (400, relays), Monica Riordan (hurdles, relays), Jessica Lohmann (hurdles, relays), Reah Dingle (jumps) and Natalie Stuckey (throws). Also, underclassmen Amaya Hicks (800, relays), Mazie Helpman (sprints, jumps, relays) and Emily Ulaner (800, 1600, relays) will all compete in four running events for us this week as the Lady Devils try to nail down a conference title. Emily Ulaner in particular has shown as much growth over the course of her track career as anyone I have ever coached. She has represented us in every running event from the 200 meter to the two mile. I truly appreciate her willingness to fill multiple roles in order to help us be successful as a team. Finally our lady vaulters look to make a clean sweep of the pole vault competition with Amelia Rogers, Anna Gray and Laiken Harvey holding the top three seeds for the conference meet.
