Hayesville – The Lady Devils scored 3 first inning runs Tuesday at Hayesville. Those runs would prove to be enough as Stacey Griggs put on her best performance of the year. Swain took a 7-0 conference win over the Jackets.
Griggs pitched a gem. She scattered 3 hits and walked none while striking out a career high 17 Yellow Jackets in posted the Lady Devils first shutout of the season.
In the first inning the Lady Devils sent 8 hitters to the plate. Maddie Spates led off with a single, while Brayden Taylor reached after being hit by a pitch. Stacey Griggs doubled to score Spates and giving Swain runners at 2nd and 3rd. Savana Smith hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor. Kandyce Crisp followed with a double scoring Kierston Smith, who was running for Griggs.
Swain struck again in the third inning. Savana Smith led off with a triple. Ashley Stevenson scored Smith with a double, to give Swain a 4-0 lead.
Brayden Taylor doubled in the fourth and promptly stole third. Taylor would score the fifth run for Swain on a Savana Smith single.
In the fifth the Lady Devils would score their final two runs. Ashley Stevenson opened with a walk and followed by Hannah Epperson, who reached on an error. Two batters later Taylor doubled to score both Stevenson and Epperson.
For the game Maddie Spates, Brayden Taylor and Savana Smith all had a pair of hits. Smith added a pair of RBI, while Taylor scored twice.
