Cherokee (Special to the Maroon Devils Network)-Your Maroon Devils had another great day on the track. Monday, we visited Cherokee and our ladies 4×200 team qualified for the NCHSAA Indoor State Championships, that Monica Riordan, Jenna Marr, Emily Ulaner, and Janet Villagomez with Kendall Ogle as our alternate. Not to be outdone, first year pole vaulter, Matthew Gray, improved his PR by a foot and qualified for the NCHSAA Indoor State meet in Pole Vault. Two of our athletes barely missed qualifying times and will travel to Asheville on Thursday for one last chance. Gracie Monteith continued her strong end of season run in the 1000 missing qualifying by 2 seconds. Amelia Rogers barely missed the qualifying height in the pole vault. To go along with these athletes, Austin SanSouci set a new Pr in the 1000 M run, Jaxon McClung set his new PR in the 1000, and Landon Matz set his new PR in the 300.
As of right now, we have 8 athletes going to the state meet with a real possibility of 3 more after Thursday. It has been a very exciting season.
