Hendersonville – Tuesday the Lady Devils won the first all female dual match, believed to be the first in state history, and certainly the first in school history. Swain scored a 30-24 win over West Henderson. The NCHSAA has not sanctioned female wrestling as a separate sport from boys wrestling, however they are allowing USA Wrestling to sanction girls under a trial basis. So, for Swain, while the Devils have had female wrestlers in the past, this is the first time they have competed against other females in a complete match setting.
In the match the Lady Devils took forfeits wins for Tynighia Lillard (106), Peyton Hines (113), and Willa Bible (170).
Taking wins for the Lady Devils were Maddie Lay in the 132 weight class and Mallerie Clampitt in the 160 weight class, both by pinfall.
Last week, prior to Thanksgiving, the ladies also participated in a North Knights Ladies Invitational and had several solid showings, including a first place for Lilly Colcord.

Tuesday the men’s wrestling team traveled to Franklin to face Franklin and Fannin County in a tri-match on Tuesday. Swain is still wrestling with out football players, who are in the process of passing hydration and weight tests. Franklin took a 38-30 win over the Devils while Fannin took the win by a 57-11 score. The shorthanded Devils forfeited five total weight classes, that will eventually be filled.
