Maroon Devils Back in the Win Column With 60-0 Blowout

Maroon Devil FootballBryson City – Friday Swain got back to their winning ways as they cruised to a 60-0 nonconferencee win over the Gladiator Sports Academy.  With the win the Devils clinched a 5-0 nonconference mark for the season.

Swain raced out to a 40-0 lead at halftime and then cruised the rest of the way, with everyone on the team who was dressed seeing ample playing time.

Colby Taylor started the scoring for Swain, as he rushed in from 5 and 25 yards.  Donnavin Groenewold scored next on a 24 yard scamper.  In the second quarter Carson Taylor scored on a 29 yard run.  Ian Brooks followed that with a 5 yard touchdown, and Connor Hyatt finished off the 1st half scoring with a 1 yard plunge.

Gabe Lillard completed his first pass as a varsity quarterback as he hit Cameron Blankenship on a 3 yard fade to the back of the endzone.  Andrew Chavez and Chris Singley rounded out the scoring as each scored on a 5 yard run.

Gavin Lanning was 3 of 4 on extra points, while Aiden Pond was 2 of 4.

For the game the Maroon Devils rushed for 308 yards on 36 carries, while limiting the Gladiators to 43 yards of total offense.

Ian Brooks finished with a game high 90 yards on 7 carries.  Carson Taylor rushed for 69 yards while Colby Taylor had 61.  Chris Singley finished with 34 yards on 6 carries.

Cody Long paced the defense with 7 tackles, while Charlie Lambert had 6 and Ian Brooks 5.

Swain travels to Hayesville to round out the regular season this Friday.
