Robbinsville – On Monday the Maroon Devils traveled to Robbinsville for another Smoky Mountain Conference showdown. The Black Knights rode a strong ground game to an easy 43-6 win over the Devils. Inexplicably the Maroon Devils were beaten in practically every phase of the game. Robbinsville rushed for more yards in the first half than the Devils had previously given up in any game all season, and the Swain offense fared no better with just under 50 yards for the first half.
Robbinsville took the opening kickoff and methodically drove down field, scoring the game’s first points, with a 63 yard 13 play drive. Lex Hooper scored the first of his 4 rushing touchdowns on a 3 yard plunge.
Swain’ initial drive was stopped on three downs with the Devils losing 9 yards and punting. The Knights would need just one play to score again, as Hooper raced 48 yards for the touchdown.
The 13 points the Black Knights scored in the 1st quarter would be the first points the Maroon Devils had given up in the first quarter all season.
Unfortunately for the Maroon Devils the 2nd quarter would be much of the same, as the Knights scored on their 1st four possessions of the game to build a 26-0 lead. For good measure the Knights added a field goal on their 5th possession to take a 29-0 lead into halftime.
The 2nd half was somewhat better for the Maroon Devils as they were outscored 14-6.
For the game the Black Knights rushed for 346 yards on 47 carries and 5 touchdowns, all, easily the most given up by Swain all season.
On the flip side the Maroon Devils finished with 140 yards rushing on 39 carries, with another 41 through the air. Swain did not help their own cause as they fumbled the ball 4 times losing 2 of those and had another 2 interceptions for 4 total turnovers on the night.
Swain will return to action in just 4 days as they host Gladiator Sports Academy for their final nonconference battle of the season.
