(Special to the Maroon Devil Network) – The Maroon Devils Men’s Soccer Team hosted the Asheville Trailblazers on Monday night for non-conference action. Just eight minutes into the game Senior Aiden Pond would send a long ball to Freshman Landon Matz who would settle the ball and chip it over the goalkeepers head. Four minutes later the Devils would demonstrate some very unselfish soccer that lead to a goal. The Devils would start on one end of the field and go the length of the field with 6 passes that concluded with Junior Joao Segato finding Matz for his second goal of the game. The half would end with the Devils up 2-0.
Twenty five minutes into the second half Junior Zachary Cline would find Matz on a cross. Matz would score the goal completing his hat trick. The game would end with the Devils taking the 3-0 win. “Overall the team played really well and as a team.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “We are continuing to take the season one game at a time and focusing on our goals.”
On defense Senior Aiden Pond led the way for a second game in a row with 13 Clears/Steals. He was followed by Sophomore Levi Trantham with 11, Sophomore Lucas Trantham with 8, Senior Jonas Trejo and Senior Nate Brock with 7 each. In goal Junior Noel Wolf had 9 Saves.
