Sylva (Special to the Maroon Devils Network) – The Maroon Devils Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Sylva to take on the Smoky Mountain Mustangs on Monday night. The first half was a close matchup as the only goal of the half came off a Mustang corner kick. In the second half the Mustangs would score 4 more goals. One of the goals would come off a penalty kick due to a foul in the box and two others would come off corner kicks. The game would end with the Mustangs taking a 5-0 win.
“We played a good first half, but just had to many mistakes in the box in the second half.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “We will focus on getting the ball cleared out from the box at our next practice.” In the game on defense, Senior Aiden Pond would lead the way with 9 clears/steals, followed by Sophomore Lucas Trantham with 8 and Freshman Matthew Gray with 5. In goal Junior Noel Wolf had 24 Saves.
The player of the game for the Devils was Junior Noel Wolf. “Noel played a really good game in goal. He made some great saves.” said Cline. The Devils next game will be this Wednesday at 6:00 at home against the Brevard Blue Devils.
