Bryson City (Special to the Maroon Devils Network) – The Maroon Devils Men’s Soccer Team hosted Tallulah Falls on Monday night. Going into the game the Devils had not beaten Tallulah Falls since 2013. The Devils would get on the scoreboard 15 minutes into the game when Freshman Landon Matz would find Sophomore Gavin Lanning with a great thru pass. 13 minutes later Junior Zachary Cline would take a shot from 28 yards out off a throw in from Senior Nathan Brock scoring a goal. With 11 minutes left in the first half Junior Chase Burrell would take a free kick 37 yards out over the goalkeepers head. The Devils would go in at halftime with a 3-0 lead.

In the second half Tallulah Falls came out ready to play. Just 5 minutes into the half they scored their first goal of the evening. 3 minutes later Burrell would score Swain’s 4th goal off a pass from Lanning. Tallulah would keep the pressure on the Devils as they would score another goal with 4 minutes left in the game. The game would finish with the Devils taking the 4-2 win.

“Tallulah has a good team. We came out strong and played one of the best first halves we have played all season.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “They kept the pressure on us in the second half, but we held them off. Overall we played a good game. We had quite a few players that stepped it up for us on defense.” In the game on defense, Senior Jonas Trejo would lead the way with 6 Clears/Steals, followed by Sophomore Lucas Trantham with 4 and Senior Nathan Brock with 2.  In goal Junior Noel Wolf had 7 Saves.

The player of the game for the Devils was Senior Jonas Trejo. “Jonas really played a key role defensively in the center of the field for us.” said Cline. “He was not afraid to go after the ball and he had really good positioning on the field.” The Devils play again at home on Wednesday at 6:00 when they host Madison. The Devils played Madison in the season opener tyng them 2-2 in the previous meeting. The Devils are now 2-2-2 on the season.
