Pisgah (Special to the Maroon Devils Network) – The Maroon Devil Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Pisgah on Monday night to take on the Pisgah Bears. The Devils were hoping to avenge a 5-1 loss to the 2A Bears last season. It was a tale of two halves with the game. The first half found the Devils on their heels a lot of the half, while the second half the Devils dominated the time of possession with speed and ball movement.
Just 9 minutes into the first half the Bears scored the first goal of the game off a rebound off the goal post. The rest of the half would remain scoreless. In the second half Freshman Landon Matz would find the back of the net 6 minutes in off a throw in from Junior Nathan Brock. Later in the half an offsides call would take away the Devils second goal of the game. The game would finish with a 1-1 tie.
“Overall it was a well-played game by both teams.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “We definitely stepped up our intensity in the second half and we are starting to get a glimpse of the level of play we are capable of. ” In the game on defense, Senior Aiden Pond would lead the way with 6 Clears/Steals, followed by Junior Zachary Cline with 4, and Sophomore Levi Trantham and Junior Anthony Reyes each with 2. In goal Junior Noel Wolf had 15 Saves.
The player of the game for the Devils was Junior Noel Wolf. “Noel had to stop some tough shots for us and helped keep us in the game.” said Cline. The Devils will play their next game on Wednesday night at 6 at 3A Tuscola High School.
