Madison (Special to the Maroon Devils Network) – The Maroon Devil Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Madison on Monday night to take on the Madison Patriots. It was a hard fought game that found the Patriots get on the board early scoring the first goal of the game just 4 minutes in. The rest of the first half Swain would take a total of 12 shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. Madison would go into halftime leading 1-0.
In the second half Swain would get on the board 14 minutes in when Junior Chase Burrell found the back of the net with a header off Senior Nate Brock’s throw in. Swain would take a 2-1 when Burrell would find the back of the net once again 18 minutes into the second half. With 8 minutes left in the game Madison would score one last time tying the score 2-2. The game would end in a tie.
“Overall it was a very physical game.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “We had a total of 25 shots on goal. We have got to do a better job of converting those shots into goals.” In the game on defense, Senior Aiden Pond would lead the way with 10 Clears/Steals, followed by Freshman Landon Matz and Sophomore Lucas Trantham each with 6, and Freshman Matthew Gray with 5. In goal Junior Noel Wolf had 10 Saves.
The player of the game for the Devils was Junior Noel Wolf. “Noel did a great job in goal and saved us numerous times.” said Cline. The Devils will play their next game on Wednesday night at 6 in their home opener against Mitchell.
