Norwood – The Lady Devil softball team traveled 4 hours to Norwood for their 2nd round playoff matchup with 4th seeded South Stanly. It was only after they arrived that they found out the playoff game would be delayed from a 5 o’clock start to a 7 o’clock start due to poor field conditions, caused by heavy rain earlier in the day. Once the game started, a little before 7, the Lady Devils went toe-to-toe with the 22-2 Rowdy Rebel Bulls. South Stanly took a tough 7-2 win to advance and end the Lady Devils season.
For Swain it would be 4 costly errors that turned a 3-2 game into a 7-2 game. Stacey Griggs returned to the circle for the Lady Devls. The sophomore yielded only 3 earned runs on the night, striking out 5 and walking 6 while giving up 7 hits.
The Lady Devils scored both runs on solo home runs. Freshman Savana Smith gave the Lady Devils the lead with a solo shot to left centerfield in the top of the 3rd inning. Junior Kenzie Eagleman hit a shot to right centerfield in the 6th. Smith finished 3-3, while Eagleman was 2-3, Kendall Bowers and Brayden Taylor each had a hit to account for the Lady Devils 7 hits on the evening.
Swain finishes their season with a 14-7 overall record.
