Bear Creek – In the 1st round of the NCHSAA 1A softball playoffs the Lady Devils traveled 4 hours to Bear Creek to face Chatham Charter, the 13th seed. Swain fell behind early, trailing 4-2 after the 2nd inning. The Lady Devils responded with a 4 run 4th inning to take the lead for good and hold on down the stretch for a 8-7 win. With the win the Lady Devils will now face #4 seed South Stanly, who is 20-2 on the season.
For the Lady Devils it was the entire lineup who produced, as Swain got hits from 8 of their 9 batters and runs from 8 of their 9 batters. Swain scored 8 runs, but left the bases loaded 3 separate times during the game. Kenzie Eagleman drove in a pair of runs, while Maize Helpman, Ashton Younce, Savanna Smith, Willa Bible and Kensley Chamber each drove in a run.
In the circle Anneleise Cook picked up the win. Cook gave up 8 hits and walked 6, while striking out 6.
Swain will travel to South Stanly on Friday, game time for the 2nd round contest will be 5 o’clock.
