Special to the Maroon Devils Network – The Lady Devils soccer team traveled to Murphy on Monday night to take on the Tri-County Early College. Swain would have five different players score for the Lady Devils. Just one minute and a half into the game Senior Aliyah Bigmeat would score the first goal off a pass by Junior Dhruti Senghani. Four minutes later Senior Kyndall Cochran would find the back of the net with the assist going to Junior Rebecca Duncan. Six minutes later Freshman Kaylee Simmons would score her first goal of the night off a pass from Sophomore Isabelle Green. Cochran would add one more with 21 minutes left in the first half off a pass from Green. With 12 minutes left in the first half Cochran would take the corner and Simmons would finish it for a goal. Cochran would add one more off a pass from Sophomore Bri Ross in the first half.
Eight minutes into the second half Sophomore Kate Poss would dribble the length of the field to score her first goal. Ross would add another one assisted by Green. With 28 minutes left in the game Cochran would dribble up from her defensive position to score the final goal ending the game at that point due to the mercy rule. In defense Freshman Jadyn Perez and Ross led the way with 12 steals/clears, followed by Poss with 10, Sophomore Peyton Hines with 9 and Duncan and Green each with 8. With Cochran’s 4 goals she now has 34 goals for the season, breaking her school record of 32 goals she set last year.
The player of the game for the Lady Devils was Senior Aliyah Bigmeat. “Aliyah has really started stepping it up on offense the past few games.” said Cline. “She is doing a great job out on the field.”
The Lady Devils improve to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the Smoky Mountain Conference. On Thursday they will travel to Blue Ridge for a 4:30 conference game.
