Special to the Maroon Devils Network – The Lady Devils soccer team hosted the Mitchell Mountaineers on Friday night. It would be the second time the two teams have played this season as Swain took a 3-1 win the first time they played. Swain would get on the score board just three minutes into the game as Sophomore Isabelle Green would find Senior Kyndall Cochran for a goal. With six minutes left in the first half Greene would connect with Cochran again. Three minutes later they would combine for their 3rd score of the half making it 3-0. In the second half the pair would connect two more times giving Cochran 5 goals and Greene 5 assists. Mitchell would score one goal in the second half making the final score 5-1.
On defense, Sophomore Bri Ross would lead the way with 31 clears/steals. Sophomore Kate Poss added 29 followed by Freshman Jadyn Perez with 23, Junior Peyton Hines with 17 and Junior Rebecca Duncan with 16. “We struggled in the first half with our low energy level.” said Head Coach Scott Cline. “In the second half we seemed to have picked up the energy level and communication quite a bit.”
The player of the game for the Lady Devils was Sophomore Isabelle Green. “Isabelle really stepped it up and did a great job working the middle of the field.” said Cline. “She was able to find the seams to send the ball ahead to the other offensive players.”
The Lady Devils improve to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the Smoky Mountain Conference. On Monday they will travel to Tri-County Early College for a 6:00 game and on Thursday they will travel to Blue Ridge for a 4:30 game.
