BRYSON CITY, NC The Maroon Devils are again reaching out to their awesome fans, asking if they would show up in greater numbers and be even louder than last weeks game. Now I know last weeks turnout was pretty impressive but that was good preparation for this weeks game against the Monroe Redhawks.
The coaches at Swain County High School are calling on the fans to show up at a “State Game Level” this Friday. This is the game that determines which western team will play in the NCHSAA 1AA State Game in Raleigh on December 1st, and we need to be that team!
Monroe is not a team to be taken lightly, for they too are in the semi-finals match of the playoffs. Last week they beat Mount Airy on the road and here is a little bit from Jeff Linville, Staff Reporter for The Mount Airy News on that game,
“The game was supposed to be a case of the irresistible force and the immovable object. The Redhawks came in averaging 41 points, while the Bears had surrendered just 8.75 points in a 12-game winning streak.
In this case, the Monroe offense was certainly an irresistible force, scoring on every possession until running out the clock in the fourth quarter.”Read more: Mount Airy News – Redhawks outscore Bears 61 31 in state playoffs
The Devils have home field advantage going into Friday’s game against Monroe and they want to make sure they take full advantage of that, and that requires the fans to show up in copious amounts. When the Maroon Devil Faithful show up like they did last game it can lead to game altering outcomes. Not only do the players see a stadium full of support but they feel it, and it drives their intensity and passion to a whole new level. For example, when the fans “ooooooooo” in unison after an opposing player is laid out, or when the stands unite with cheers of support for the “D” to hold on 4th and inches, or when the stadium ignites with pride after a huge play has just gained the Maroon Devils another 6 points on the board. These few examples are just a small slice of the pie in ways Swain fans can change the outcome of a game and help send their hometown football team get back to the state finals for their second consecutive appearance.
Word from the school is that another Maroon Out has been called for this Friday’s matchup. Lets outperform last week’s turnout Maroon Devil Fans, by showing up in vast quantities and covered in maroon. Be sure to bring your friends and family too we know they are in town for Thanksgiving, and nothing is better with Thanksgiving leftovers than some small town football action!
Also, be aware that we are the only team playing at home in Western North Carolina so this game could draw many people from surrounding counties, so come early, be loud, and wear maroon!
