Bryson City – With 2.9 seconds remaining with the scored tied at 54, the Maroon Devils had the ball and what they thought would be the final shot. Murphy’s Micah Nelson stole the inbounds pass and dribbled just across halfcourt to heave a desperation shot that found nothing but net as the buzzer sounded, giving Murphy a 57-54 win over the Devils.
Bradley Vestal paced the Maroon Devils with a game high 21 points, to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Gaige Southards added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, while Jesse Waldroup finished with 8 rebounds and Jack Stuckey with 7.
