Bryson City – The start went great for the Lady Devils, with Swain jumping out to a 17-9 first quarter advantage over visiting Highlands on Friday. But the 2nd quarter proved to be costly for the Lady Devils, who were outscored 20-8 and trailed 29-25 at the half. Swain was never able to close the gab on Highlands, eventually falling 52-48, in their home opener.
Mazie Helpman paced the Maroon Devils, the talented freshman finished with a team high 18 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 7 steals. Junior Ashton Younce had 13 points and 7 rebounds, while Bri Ross finished with a team high 5 assists. Freshman Savannah Smith pulled down a team high 9 rebounds to go with 2 blocked shots.
