Cashiers – The Lady Devils opened the 2018-19 basketball season Tuesday with a trip to Cashiers to face Blue Ridge Early College. For the Bobcats it was their 6th game of the season, and that seemed to make all the difference in this close contest. The teams swapped the lead in the first half. In the second half the Bobcats outscored Swain 10-6 over the final 8 minutes to take the win.
For the Lady Devils freshman Mazie Helpman got her varsity career off to a hot start by scoring a team high 17 points. Helpman scored 13 of her 17 in the 2nd half. Junior guard Ashton Younce scored 11 points in the 2nd quarter on her way to 16 points for the game.
