Bryson City – It was a subtle change, one most fans might not have noticed, but it paid huge dividends for the Lady Devils. Coach Kayla McMahan flipped Jena Marr and Taylor Collins on Monday. The Lady Devils had just lost their 3rd straight game, when McMahan made the change. Swain responded with a huge win at Rosman on Tuesday, then followed it up with a win over Blue Ridge Early College on Thursday.
Against Blue Ridge on Thursday the Lady Devils took a 3-1 win by the scores of 25-20, 24-26. 25-13 and 25-10. Hitting from their new positions, Taylor Collins and Jenna Marr ignited the Swain attack. Marr finished with a match high 11 kills, while Collins was right behind with 10 kills. Kaitlin Anthony finished with 9 aces to go with 6 kills. Ashton Younce (19 assists) and Katie Winchester (11 assists) continually set up the Swain offense with great sets. Winchester finished with 13 digs from the back row, while Kierra Shook and Kaitlin Anthony had 12 each.
Tuesday at Rosman the Lady Devils took a 3-1 win by the scores of 25-13, 25-17, 14-25 and 25-19. Taylor Collins led a balanced Swain hitting attack with 8 kills, followed closely by Jenna Marr with 7, Kaitlin Anthony with 6, Ashton Younce with 5 and Kenzie Eagleman with 4. Younce and Katie Winchester had 13 assists each. Kierra Shook finished with a team high 16 digs.
