Bryson City – The Swain Lady Devils soccer team hosted the Hayesville Yellow Jackets for Senior Night on Monday. The Lady Devils were looking to avenge an early season 3-0 loss to the Lady Jackets. The Lady Devils avenged the loss in a dominating fashion winning 6-0. Five Lady Devils were able to find the back of the net. Seniors were recognized before the game. The game started with all six Seniors starting including two Seniors with season ending injuries, Brette Pattillo and Brynnae Rhynehart. Hayesville graciously kicked the ball out so the two injured Seniors could step off the field. The scoring started off with a corner kick taken by Junior Kyndall Cochran with a finish by Sophomore Peyton Hines scoring her first goal of the season. Fourteen minutes later Cochran found the back of the net off a pass from Freshman Isabelle Green. Swain would add one more goal before the half by Senior Mae Duncan off a pass from Green. Twenty three minutes into the second half Swain scored again off a goal by Green. With four minutes left in the game Cochran would score a goal off of a Hayesville goal kick. The final goal of the night would come from Freshman Bri Ross from a pass from Cochran.
On the defensive side Hines led the way with 13 clears/steals and Freshman Bri Ross, Senior Alana Booth, Junior Jessie Richards and Sophomore Rebecca Duncan each had 9. In goal Senior Josie Parker recorded a shutout for the game. The Swain Player of the Game was Junior Richards. “Jessie played great defense on Hayesville’s main scorer,” said Cline. “She did not allow her to score and gave her very few touches on the ball.”
