Bryson City – It came down to a showdown between the Smoky Mountain Conference’s two unbeaten (in conference play) teams to decide the championship Thursday. Swain jumped out of the gate early, winning the first 3 matches, but it was Robbinsville who would finish, as they took the next 7 matches. Swain would finally break the run with a major decision in the 145 pound class. The Knights shut the door on Swain hopes by taking the next 3 matches and the victory.
Swain got wins from Cyle Ponchot (182), Jacob Langston (195), Will Paul (220) and Jonas Trejo (145). Ponchot and Langston both took pins, giving Swain an early 12-0. Will Paul followed with a forfeit in the 220, moving Swain to an 18-0 lead. Trejo scored a major decision taking his match by the score of 13-2.
Swain will host the Smoky Mountain Conference Championships this Saturday.
