Hendersonville – Swain High got the cross country season started last Saturday as they participated in the WNC Cross Country Carnival. This event is a huge cross country meet that hosts over 40 teams with runners broken in to sections that include over 100 in each section. Swain competed in the Invitational division in both boys and girls.
Senior Emma Pindur finished 4th overall in the women’s run. Pindur finished as the top runner from all of WNC, placing behind runners from Greer Middle College, Forestview, and Cuthbertson. Her time was 20:38.60, placing her just ahead of runners from West Henderson and Enka.
Rebecca Duncan finished 52nd overall with a time of 25:11.10. Phynley Meyers (88, 26:56.20), Dhruti Senghani (109, 27:51.70) and Mallerie Clampitt (123, 28:45.20) rounded out Swain’s scorers on the day. Each of those three turned in personal best runs.
On the men’s side, Swain was paced by Brendan Ulaner. Ulaner finished 28th overall with a time of 20:57.00. Just behind him were Dhruv Senghani and Lucas Brown. Senghani finished 31st overall with a time of 21:00.60, while Brown was just two spots behind him at 33rd with a time of 21:11.60.
Alec Lay (101, 23:44.70), Ashton Buchannan (116, 24:24.90), and Cyle Ponchot (123, 24:33.60) rounded out the Swain runners, with each of them finishing with a new personal record.
Both teams will run this Saturday at WCU.
