Hayesville – Swain completed back-to-back Smoky Mountain Conference Championships on Wednesday as they outdistanced the competition to take the 2 round Smoky Mountain Conference golf championship. The Maroon Devils posted a team total of 622 in taking their second straight crown. Hayesville was second with a 695, followed by Murphy with 702.
Grant Shuler captured the individual title for the second straight year. Shuler posted a first round 68, to go along with a second round 75 giving him a 143 total for the 2 days. Jack Cornblum finished second. Cornblum fired an opening round of 68 and followed it with a second round total of 79 for a 2 day total of 147. Josh Cottrell of Hayesville was third with a two day total of 156.
Swain’s Holden Petty finished with a 162 total after firing an open round 77. Cameron Hampton (86, 87) and Brett Treadway (89, 84) both finished with a 2 day score of 173 to round out Swain’s golfers for the tournament.
Grant Shuler was named the Smoky Mountain Conference Player of the Year for the 2nd straight year. Jack Cornblum and Holden Petty were both named All Smoky Mountain Conference. Brett Treadway and Cameron Hampton were both named Honorable Mention All Smoky Mountain Conference.
With the win the Devils advance to the Western Regional Championships, which will be at Cramer Mountain Golf Club in Gastonia on May 2nd.
