Cherokee – Round 2 went to the Devils Friday night. The Swain student body contributed in a big way, with a large showing which included signs and dressing in Swain gear. Swain’s students did a fantastic job making their presence in the game felt.
“That’s what Swain County is all about,” commented head coach Scotty McMahan following the win. “They did a really good job inspiring us.”
Swain flexed it’s muscles jumping out to an early lead and never looked back in taking a 87-68 win over Cherokee. With the win the Maroon Devils clinched their first Smoky Mountain Conference regular season championship in 20 years. Swain, 21-2 (10-1) now has a two game lead on Cherokee (7-3) with only one game left in the season, as the Devils will travel to Hayesville on Tuesday to conclude the regular season.
The Maroon Devils placed four players in double figures. Phinehas Little led the way with 22 points, while Evan and Zeke Bradley both finished with 18 points. Clayton Catolster chipped in 13 points to the Maroon Devils cause.
