Bryson City – Swain County High School is pleased to announce that Kayla McMahan has been hired as head volleyball coach. McMahan served as assistant coach last year under Janet Shuler. After two seasons as head coach Shuler resigned in November. McMahan is a former star athlete at Swain High, where she played on the 2008 State Championship volleyball team and State Runner-up softball team. McMahan takes over a program that finished 14-8 last season. She is a graduate of Western Carolina University, and teaches at East Elementary School.
“I am extremely excited for this opportunity,” she commented, “being able to take over a program that has built such tradition and success, under Coach Shuler and Coach Blankenship, well, it is just a dream come true.”
