Cherokee
Despite being ranked first in every State 1A poll, the Maroon Devil football team entered Friday’s contest against Cherokee with more questions than they entered the season with. Most of the questions involved the Devils lack of focus and discipline. The Devils answered their critics by calmly and coolly dissecting one of their most heated rivals.
Swain used a 48 point first half to cruise to a 61-8 win over Cherokee, their 4th straight win in the series. The Devils got two Blake Wright touchdown runs to go along with a Matthew Maennle interception return for a touchdown to build a 20-0 first quarter advantage.
In the second quarter Raymius Smith ran for a touchdown and hit Greg Tisho for another touchdown. Garrett Lane scored a rushing touchdown and Blake Wright added his 3rd rushing touchdown as the Devils lead grew to 48-0 by halftime.
Sean Webb and Storm Jordan finished off the Swain scoring in the second half with rushing touchdowns.
Wright finished with 113 yards on 6 carries and 3 touchdowns for the Devils. Wright and 9 other backs rushed for 328 yards on 30 carries and 7 touchdowns.
The Maroon Devils (8-0, 3-0) travel to Andrews this Friday, kickoff is slated for 7:30.
