Matthew Maennle passed Hall of Famer Benjie Shuler on the Maroon Devils All-Time Receptions list Friday in Swain’s 61-8 win over Cherokee. Maennle entered the game only 1 catch shy of Shuler’s 102 reception record. Maennle tied Shuler with a 7 yard reception at about the 10 minute mark of the 2nd quarter.
Maennle broke the record on the Devils next possession. Raymius Smith hit Maennle on a sharp post pattern that went for a 45 yard gain.
The catch gives Maennle 103 for his career good for 1912 yards and 22 touchdowns, all school records.
He finished the game with 2 receptions for 52 yards.
