Bryson City – On Thursday the Lady Devils could not weather the storm, figuratively or literally. It began in the 1st and didn’t let up until the game ended in the 6th. The rain started with almost the first pitch, and so did Hiwassee Dam’s offense. The Eagles plated 5 runs in the first in what has become a disturbing trend for the Lady Devils, after having given up four to Robbinsville in the first on Tuesday. Hiwassee Dam scored 7 more in the sixth inning to post a 14-2 final over Swain.
The weather itself was brutal on both teams. Rain was steady and hard for most of the six full innings of play. Neither pitcher Haylie Shope or Taylor Day were able to get much grip or control on the day as the two combined for an uncharacteristic 14 walks.
Sydney Call went 2-3 for the Lady Devils driving in a run with a double in the fourth. Shayne Catolster finished 1-2 with a double of her own, while Gabby Jones was 1-1 with a pair of walks to go along with a single and a run scored.
