Bryson City – Tuesday’s contest quickly turned into an instant classic softball game. Robbinsville used a 2 run home run off the bat of Mykayla Morgan in the top of the 7th to down Swain 7-6. The Lady Devils rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning, but could not hang on in the 7th.
Sophomore first baseman Shayne Catolster drilled a 2 run home run (the first of her career) in the bottom of the 6th to give Swain the lead at 6-5. Bryar Buchanan had tripled one batter earlier driving in a run. Buchanan would score on the Catolster home run.
Catolster would finish the day 3-3 with a home run and a pair of doubles, she scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for Swain. Sydney Call was 2-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Caitlyn Dills was 1-2 with a single.
Swain overcame a 4 run first from the Black Knights. Call would score the Lady Devils first run in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Knights answered to go up 5-1. The lead would remain at 5-1 until the Devils scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th.
Catolster doubled in the 5th and later scored on Taylor Day’s double. Gabby Jones, who reached by error scored on Grace Cabe’s ground out.
All in all it was a terrific game by both teams.
