Facing larger schools in unfamiliar terrain, the Lady Devils continued their solid season with a seventh place finish at the High Country Classic this Saturday at State Farm Fields in Boone. Swain was led by Lauren Shell, who placed 34th overall with a time of 23:00, followed closely by Blair Allman in 23:22 (41st). Erin Zwick kept in close contact with that duo, running 24:06 for 45th place. Autumn Demonet (24:40) and Tori Swartz (25:09) rounded out the scorers. Swain won the tiebraker for seventh place thanks to Summer Hight’s 74th place finish, two spots ahead of West Wilkes’s sixth runner.
The girls varsity race featured runners from 14 schools; 11 full squads scored in the meet. Host and perenial 4A powerhouse Watauga (Boone) won with a score of 36, followed closely by Dunwoody (Dunwoody, Ga.) with 44 points. Swain totaled 219 points.
The Lady Devils return to action this Wednesday at Hiwassee Dam.
