The Maroon Devils made the four hour trip to Kentucky and the home of the McCoy side of the Hatfield and McCoy feud looking to build on their school record 17 game winning streak. Homestanding Pikeville High School, with 15 freshman on their varsity roster, was looking for anything postiive to build on in their 1-4 start. Against an experience laden Swain squad the result was exactly what most would have predicted, a lopsided Maroon Devil win. Swain scored 5 first half touchdowns and then 2 more in the span of one minute to open the second half on their way to an easy 54-7 win.
Raymius Smith threw for 221 yards and 2 TDs and rushed for 2 more TDs in the Devils 54-7 win over Pikeville
Smith threw for 221 yards on an 8 of 11 performance. Maennle on the other hand showed his true versatility as he scored 4 touchdowns and ended with 320 all purpose yards. He was on the receiving end of 4 of Smith’s passes for 159 yards (6th most receiving yards in school history), added 44 more rushing, as well as 28 yards then for good measure he returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown.
On the defensive side the Devils dominated most of the day. Pikeville did score their lone touchdown on the Maroon Devils first team defense, marking the first points they have surrendered since the East Henderson game. Swain held Pikeville to under a 100 yards rushing, and under 100 passing for the game. Nate Sellers Dakota Brown and Luis Saeli all were outstanding for the Devils defense. Brown, Sean Webb, and Zach Weeks all had pass interceptions on the day.
With his 221 yards passing Raymius Smith went over the 1000 yard mark in passing yardage for the season.
Swain returns home this friday as they host Hayesville. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
