Bryson City – Swain County High School is proud to announce that senior standout Spencer McCoy has agreed to a preferred walk-on spot to continue his football career with Western Carolina University.
McCoy was an All SMC selection in both football and wrestling, and a three time NCHSAA State Wrestling Champion. He was also named All WNC in wrestling this past season and finished his wrestling career with a 119-12 record and was undefeated (59-0) in his time at Swain.
McCoy finished his high school with 2823 yards on 460 carries and 45 touchdowns. On defense, where McCoy is expected to play at WCU, he finished with 415 tackles, 8 forced fumbles (6 recoveries), 3 interceptions, and 2 blocked punts.
This past season he finished with 90 tackles despite missing the final two games of the season due to a knee injury.
After missing two months with the knee injury, McCoy came back to finish his wrestling career. Wrestling in the 220 pound weight class for the first time, McCoy won his 3rd straight NCHSAA Wrestling Championship, and finished the season with a 22-0 record.
