Bryson City – Swain scored 92 points, good enough for 1st place, Wednesday in a home conference meet. Andrews was 2nd with 85 points, Robbinsville next with 58 points, followed by Highlands (24) and Nantahala (2).
Cooper Reinert opened defense of his 2014 Pole Vault State Championship with a solid 1st in the event, clearing 12′. Reinert added another 1st in the 400 meter run with a time of 58.37. Ben Miller turned in a solid performance in the hurdle events, taking first in the 110 high with a time of 17.51, and second in the 300 with a time of 45.68.
The Devils were solid in the distance events, thanks to Parker Chatham. Chatham took 1st in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.1. He followed that with a 2nd in the 1600 with a time of 5:00.1. Sam Dickson took 3rd in the 3200 run with a time of 12:43.
In the field events Swain turned in a dominating performance in the long jump taking 1st, 3rd, and 4th place. Angel Bowers won the event with a jump o f18’6.75″, followed by Shane Swimmer in third and Ben Miller in fourth. Cody Cooper took third in the triple jump. Spencer McCoy was third in the shot put, while Caleb Woodard was fourth in the discus.
Montrell Turner finished fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.85.
Swain won the 4×800 and 4×100 relay events, but names of the team members were not submitted.
