The Swain Varsity Football Cheerleaders have had a great season cheering which will end this Saturday, December 8th, at 3:30 p.m. in Raleigh, NC. The girls will be competing in the 10th Annual NCHSAA InvitationalCheerleading Championship at the Raleigh Convention Center. There will be a total of 18 squads in the Small Varsity Non-Tumble division from across the state. “Cheerleading divisions are different from conference divisions. Our division consists of squads with 15 or less members, who stunt, but do not tumble. We will be competing against squads from 3A and 4A schools who are only bringing 15 girls from their squad to compete. Other area teams in our division include Ac Reynolds and North Buncombe High School. We placed 3rd Runner Up last year against 10 teams. I have complete confidence in our team and know that my girls will rise to meet the challenge of a larger division this year.”
“We chose not to attend a Bowl Game this year, but two of our cheerleaders, Amorie Gunter and Ashton Turbyfill, did attend the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day. I really like to give the girl’s every opportunity to experience new things and see new sights. Just because we are from a small town, doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t have the same opportunities and goals as others. We have always had great community support and so are able to do these “extra” types of things.”
“What makes me most proud is that for these cheerleaders is that it’s not just about us. These girls truly care about the team, and are constantly working to do what it takes for their team to win. We don’t just see ourselves as football cheerleaders, but try to support all sports as much as we can. We’ve had a great season, we love those football boys, and have enjoyed every one of our 2642 pushups!”
