HIWASSEE DAM, WNC – Swain Maroon Devils Varsity and Hiawasee Dam High School lit up the scoreboard on Wednesday as they combined for 26 runs. In the end, Swain Maroon Devils Varsity won the offensive battle 14-12.
The teams totaled 25 hits, including eight extra base hits in the game.
The game was back-and-forth heading into the ninth, with 11 lead changes.
Swain Maroon Devils Varsity pulled out the win thanks to a strong ninth inning.
Zachary Shuler racked up four RBIs on four hits for Swain Maroon Devils Varsity. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the second, fifth, and ninth innings.
Bronson Lindsay got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed one run over three innings. The Swain Maroon Devils Varsity pitcher struck out two, walked none and surrendered one hit.
The bottom of the first saw Hiawasee Dam High School take an early lead, 1-0. A single by Kilpatrick, scoring Moore started the inning off.
Swain Maroon Devils Varsity brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the seventh. In the third, Swain Maroon Devils Varsity scored on an RBI double by Shuler, bringing home Taylor Jones.
Hiawasee Dam High School answered Swain Maroon Devils Varsity’s top inning with two runs of its own in the third. Hiawasee Dam High School scored on a bases loaded walk by Forrister and an error.
Hiawasee Dam High School matched its one-run sixth inning with one more in the ninth. In the sixth, Hiawasee Dam High School scored on a solo home run by Pisciotta.
It didn’t take long for Hiawasee Dam High School to answer as it scored two runs of its own in the seventh. Hiawasee Dam High School scored on a two-run home run by Evans.
