Bryson City – It was only game 1 but an impressive debut for the Maroon Devils none-the-less. Working with only one day of practice for their football players the Devils used a balanced attack to take a 84-73 win over Blue Ridge on Tuesday.
If it is any indication of the what is to come the Maroon Devils had 10 players who scored on the night, and 5 of those scoring in double figures, proving to be an extremely deep team. Blue Ridge jumped out to a 23-12 lead over the game’s first 8 minutes. Swain came to life in the second quarter though, outscoring the Bobcats 29-10 to take a 41-33 halftime lead.
Swain was paced in scoring by a trio of sophomores. Grant Shuler led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Phinehas Little (14), and Brett Treadway (13). Seniors Noah Hicks and Cody Cooper added 11 points each to round out the double figure scorers. Shuler also collected a game high 15 rebounds, while Hicks dished out 6 assists to go with 4 steals.
