Bryson City – This past week the Smoky Mountain Conference released their All Conference selections in volleyball for the 2014 season. Swain had 6 players who were recognized by the conference as being among the best players in the conference.
Swain’s senior outside hitter Lydia Sale was recognized as the Player of the Year for her efforts this season. Sale lead her team with 299 kills. Far from a one demensional player Sale also excelled on the back row with 371 service receptions and 385 digs.
Joining Sale on the All Conference team were fellow seniors Alyssa Robinson and Karie Jones. Robinson, a middle hitter, finished number one in the state in blocks with 118. Jones, who played Libero, finished third in the state in digs with 613.
Swain also had three other players cited as Honorable Mention All Smoky Mountain Conference. Seniors Emily Styles and Adrianna Kaylor were joined by Autumn Brown on the Honorable Mention list.
Swain’s Sonya Blankenship, who guided her team to a 20-6 overall mark, was named the Smoky Mountain Conference Coach of the Year for her efforts.
