BRYSON CITY, WNC – The Lady Devil softball team took the lead in the Smoky Mountain Conference with a 6-2 win over rival Murphy last week. Swain stretched their winning streak to five straight on Tuesday by downing Andrews 14-2.
In the win over Murphy Richelle Jenkins was outstanding in the circle for the Lady Devils. Jenkins gave up two runs, neither of which was earned, walked none and struck out three in picking up the win.
Swain scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Breanna Bryant and Kendra Kirkland drove in two runs each, while Hannah Bowick drove in one in the win for Swain. Bryant added a pair of hits as well.
Against Andrews the Lady Devils got two rbi each from Nerissa Woodard, Maggie Sutton, and Nikki Cody. Cody went 3-3 and scored two runs as well. Brooke Coggins went 4-4 and scored twice.
Richelle Jenkins ran her record to 5-1 on the season by yielding only one hit over three innings of work. Jenkins also struck out four.
