Bryson City – Halloween is usually a night where strange things happen, and that certainly was the case in the Maroon Devils 56-36 win over Rosman. Going into the game the Maroon Devil defense had not yielded 35 points in their previous three conference wins combined. While the defenses suffered Friday the offenses were down right offensive.
Swain rolled to a season high 493 yards of total offense, including 355 rushing yards. The Tigers on the other hand rolled out 418 rushing yards. The Maroon Devils used 10 different runners to amass their 355 yards, including two who went over the 100 yard mark. Derek Fortner (109) and Jordan Cody (118) each went over the 100 yard mark for the first time this season.
Through the air the Maroon Devils got 2 touchdown passes each from Trent Wright and Kobe Stephenson. Wright hooked up with Chandler Norton for both of his scores, while Stephenson hit Kobe Toineeta and Christian Norton for his two touchdown passes.
Jordan Cody finished the night just 4 yards shy of 300 total all-purpose yards, including 42 punt return yards and 136 kickoff return yards. Cody returned a Rosman kickoff 75 yards for his first kickoff return touchdown of the season.
Cooper Reinert was also a very busy man. Reinert made good on 8 straight extra point attempts, as well as handling kickoff chores on 9 kickoffs for the Devils.
Swain is now 8-2 (4-1) on the season.
