Andrews – The Maroon Devils got down right defensive Friday night in notching a 42-0 win over Andrews. Swain exploded for 21 unanswered second quarter points to build a commanding 28-0 halftime lead. Offensively the Devils got 3 touchdowns, but got 3 more from defense and special teams, and had one defensive touchdown called back.
Angel Bowers got the Devils scoring started as he picked off an Andrews pass and raced 36 yards for a touchdown. Austin Padilla added a second interception for a touchdown late in the second quarter. Padilla’s interception and return would cover 41 yards. Jordan Cody also picked off a pass and raced 49 yards for an apparent touchdown, only to have it nullified by a block in the back. Cody would make good on a 59 yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
On the offensive end, quarterback Trent Wright found Chandler Norton for a 13 yard touchdown strike early in the second quarter. The Wright to Norton touchdown followed the Jordan Cody interception return, which left the Devils with excellent field position on the Wildcat 13 yard line.
Chris Miller continued his excellent play of late with a career high 114 yards on only 8 carries. Miller would score on a 48 yard run in the third quarter. Derek Fortner added the Devils final touchdown on a 8 yard touchdown run.
Swain totaled more interception return yards, 116, than they allowed in rushing yards (111) from the Wildcats. Ross Ensley (9 tackles), Taylor Oros (8), and Spencer McCoy (7) keyed the stingy Devil defense, which limited the Wildcats to only 3 yards per play, in posting the Devils 2nd shutout of the season.
