Bryson City-A week and a half ago the Lady Devils saw their conference championship hopes come crashing down around them as they lost to Hayesville in what was a huge upset. The loss left them in a tie with second place Rosman as each team had 1 conference loss on the season, with Swain still having to travel to Rosman. But last week the Lady Devils got some unlikely help from a surprising source. Robbinsville stunned Rosman, dropping the Tigers back into 2nd place in the SMC.
Now a new week unfolds, and it will be the biggest week of the season for the Lady Devils. Tuesday they host upset minded Robbinsville, who suddenly finds themselves in the mix for a conference championship, then on Thursday they make the trip to Rosman for their return date with the Tigers.
At this stage of the season the Black Knights and Tigers are both tied for 2nd place with 2 losses, while the Lady Devils hold a 1 game lead with just one conference loss.
It’s pretty simple for the Lady Devils, win out this week and they will control their own destiny for the SMC crown. A loss to either or both Robbinsville and Rosman will throw things into a mess atop the conference.
Tonight’s game has taken on such importance that it has been declared a MAROON OUT, in an effort to get the Nation out in full support. Considering last Friday’s result with Robbinsville, the Nation is expected to show in record numbers.
If you are a fan of Lady Devil volleyball, then this certainly will be a week you don’t want to miss. You also will not want to miss the next 2 weeks, with Senior night next week, and a special number retirement the following week. Add to that the dwindling time we have left to enjoy Sonya Blankenship on the sidelines and you have a very special close to this her last season!
