BRYSON CITY, WNC – The Lady Devil track team finished 2nd among five conference schools at Murphy this past week. Murphy took top honors with 152 total points, while Swain scored 111, Cherokee was third with 38 points.
Swain was once again strong in the field events as they captured first in three of the five total events. Freshman Lydia Sale captured a first and third place finish. Sale was first in the long jump with a leap of 14’9”, and came in third in the triple jump. Fellow freshman Ashley Frady scored a first and third place finish as well. Frady was tops in the shot put with a throw of 29’6”, and third in the discus with a throw of 72’. Following Frady in the shot were Stevie Sutton and K-Bear Arch to give Swain a sweep of the first three spots in the shot put. Morgan Lowe took first in the high jump by clearing 4’10”.
The relay team of Alyssa Robinson, Brittany Shuler, Lydia Sale, and Jenea Bentivogili finished first in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 55.29, just a second ahead of second place Murphy’s 55.30. Swain took second in the other three relay events. Blair Allman, Lauren Shell, Marie Woodard, and Hannah Christoph ran the 4×800 relay in 12:15. The 4×200 team of Alyssa Robinson, Jenea Bentivogili, Mary Shell, and Lynsey Imhoff finished in a time of 2:03.99. In the 4×400 relay the team of Blair Allman, Hannah Christoph, Melody Little, and Emmy Helmer finished in a time of 4:57.80.
In the 100 meter the Devils took second through fourth. Lydia Sale was second in a time of 13.62, Alyssa Robinson was third with a time of 13.65, and Jenea Bentivogili was fourth. Blair Allman scored a second in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:07.83.
